About Us

The LANGA Women Development Initiative (LWDI) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-religious, and non-political organization established in 2018 and formally registered with the Bauchi State Cooperative Society in 2019 and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2022.

LWDI operates across Bauchi and Gombe States in Nigeria, working to improve the wellbeing, rights, and opportunities of women, youth, and children through integrated development programs in health, education, empowerment, and human rights.

Who We Are

LWDI is a grassroots-driven development organization committed to building stronger, healthier, and more equitable communities. Guided by a seven-member Board of Trustees, technical experts, members, and dedicated volunteers, the organization implements community-based interventions that address real and pressing social challenges.

The organization is led by Amb. Maikudi Grace (ICAN) as President/CEO, supported by a multidisciplinary governance structure that includes professionals in health, law, education, social sciences, child protection, clergy, and development practice.

At its core, LWDI believes that sustainable transformation begins when people are empowered with knowledge, skills, and opportunities.

What We Do

LWDI works across four key thematic areas known as HEEH:

1. Health

We promote access to health education and services, including awareness on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), menstrual hygiene, adolescent health, and maternal wellbeing.

2. Education

We support school enrollment, retention of girls, life skills development, and parenting education to improve learning outcomes and reduce out-of-school children.

3. Empowerment

We strengthen the economic capacity of women and youth through vocational training, skills acquisition, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and livelihood support.

4. Human Rights

We promote gender equality, legal literacy, and advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV), ensuring that survivors are heard, supported, and empowered.

Our Competitive Advantage

LWDI thrives where others hesitate. We transform limited resources into measurable impact by leveraging community trust, strong partnerships, and a committed governance structure.

Our strength lies in:

High adaptability in resource-limited environments

Deep grassroots connection

Strong community acceptance

Multidisciplinary leadership

Evidence-based programming

Our Theory of Change

When LWDI strengthens its organizational systems, leadership, partnerships, and innovation capacity, it creates an enabling environment for sustainable development.

As communities gain access to knowledge, skills, and opportunities, they become empowered to improve their health, defend their rights, and achieve economic independence.

This leads to a self-reliant society where women, youth, and children thrive with dignity and opportunity.

Our Strategic Direction

LWDI’s has a Strategic Plan that is built on the belief that lasting change requires structured action, strong systems, and empowered communities.

Our strategic goal is:

To build a society where women, youth, and children are aware of their health and human rights and are equipped for self-reliance.

To achieve this, LWDI focuses on:

  • Expanding access to health and social services
  • Improving education and life skills development
  • Strengthening economic empowerment systems
  • Enhancing human rights advocacy and GBV response
  • Building a resilient and high-performing organization

Our Journey

LWDI began in 2018 as a small grassroots initiative responding to the urgent needs of women and vulnerable groups in Bauchi State. Over time, it evolved into a structured organization with growing impact across communities.

Through community engagement, partnerships, and continuous learning, LWDI has expanded its focus from awareness creation to transformational development programming.

Today, LWDI stands as a growing organization committed to long-term impact through its guiding philosophy, the Pathway to Growth.
